Clement Leung: aviation rising star

Stephenson Harwood (Singapore) Alliance senior associate Clement Leung has been named a rising star by Airfinance Journal (AFJ) in its 2019 Guide to Aviation Lawyers, and included in Airline Economics' 40 under 40 2020 list.

AFJ is widely recognised as the leading publication covering the aviation finance and leasing market. Leung was recognised alongside five other lawyers, deemed to be the most promising legal associates for 2019. The publication commented on his expertise, and what sets him apart from others, noting “of particular value is Clement's ability to advise on, negotiate and execute the hedging aspects of aviation finance transactions which is unique to the industry.”

Airline Economics is another major publication covering global finance and leasing for the aviation sector. Its 40 under 40 list celebrates the top individuals in the aviation finance and leasing industry. Leung’s nomination was based on peers’ and clients’ recognition of his skills, achievements and dedication to the industry. In his nomination, Leung highlighted partner Saugata Mukherjee as a mentor who has been instrumental in helping him to develop his career in aviation. Subsequently, Mukherjee was recognised in Airline Economics’ inaugural list of mentors, which comprises the industry’s most respected mentors and inspirational leaders who have all been nominated by this year’s 40 under 40 individuals.

Leung is an experienced structured finance lawyer in the aviation sector. He has advised banks, lessors and airlines on various aspects of aircraft financing and leasing transactions involving multiple jurisdictions. He has more than a decade of experience advising on derivative agreements, including ISDA Master Agreements, dealing with a wide variety of products including interest rates, foreign exchange, equities, credit and commodities.
